What is a Heritage and Historic Preservation Plan?

Historic buildings and places are tangible reminders of our shared history.  They also help foster economic vitality, cultural diversity, and community identity.  To celebrate and preserve the buildings and places that represent Hot Springs’s rich and multifaceted history, the City of Hot Springs is preparing a Heritage and Historic Preservation Plan with the participation of community residents and stakeholders.

Along these lines, the City of Hot Springs welcomes and encourages your participation in this important planning process!  Your input and perspectives will build on a decades-long legacy of successful preservation efforts in Hot Springs.  The program was produced with assistance from the Historic Preservation Fund, administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior and the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, an agency of the Division of Arkansas Heritage.

Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this materials are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of the Interior or the Division of Arkansas Heritage.

The central aim of this new plan is to identify buildings and places worthy of future preservation, determine the role historic preservation has in creating new jobs and businesses, and enhance the effectiveness of the City of Hot Springs existing preservation programs and policies.  Creating a successful Heritage and Historic Preservation Plan will require the involvement of many different stakeholders in the community.
